CAMP opens near Kyoto where children can share their curiosity & creativity with their peers abroad

KYOTO, Japan - November 10, 2001 - CSK Corporation announced today the achievements and future activities of CAMP (Children's Art Museum & Park), located at the Okawa Center in Seika, Kyoto.

CAMP, situated in a rustic environment between Kyoto and Nara, is aimed at providing opportunities for children of the 21st century in finding their preferred modes of expression and communication through creative workshops. It was the belief of the late CSK Group founder Isao Okawa that "children should lead the creation of information societies." This is the vision that led to the opening of the Okawa Center in April this year.

CAMP has so far offered activities that give children the chance to express their ideas and demonstrate their creations to other children all over the world. Extending beyond the Okawa Center, CAMP spans the world via the Internet while continually working to create new innovative workshops and activities. CAMP has collaborated with research institutions, companies, as well as children's and science museums overseas, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Laboratory, the National Geographic Society, the LEGO Company and the Intel Corporation.

The CSK Group will also be supporting the "Toy Symphony," an international music performance and education project that allows children to produce music with a digital musical instrument, it was announced at a symposium today, outlining the existing and future activities of CAMP, by Masahiro Aozono, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the CSK Corporation. This symphony is based at the MIT Media Laboratory with collaboration by the BBC. A Toy Symphony workshop is thus being added to the CAMP menu.

Mr. Aozono added that the CSK Group will also add and continue to support the following children's activities:

The "Net-workshop" Project

The "Net-workshop" project offers children the opportunity to communicate through the Internet and TV telephones with other children overseas. The Net-workshop's aim is to create a sense of communication in having children share experiences and time in the workshop.

In November the first workshop with the Singapore Science Center was held, utilizing TV telephones. Net-workshops are planned to be held at a number of foreign locations in the coming months.

The "DigiCAMP" Project

"DigiCAMP" has children in foreign countries take digital photos on a given theme which are then posted on the Internet so children everywhere can view them and express their reaction. This project aims to provide children with a "sense of exchange" and contribute to their deeper mutual understanding of other societies and cultures. The first theme for the "DigiCAMP" project this month was "Every day".

Collaborating parties for this project was...
Exploratorium (California, U.S.A), the Computer Clubhouse Network (Massachusetts, USA), The Ark (Ireland), the Robib village school in Cambodia, the Singapore Science Center (Singapore), Papalote (Mexico), Roundhouse (UK), LEGO Company (Denmark) and the Media Lab Asia (India)
